1906 Dutch
 

Wondering what the opinions are on this one since I don't usually go Dutch. :roflmao: Obviously reworked as I know most were, but seller wants $900 for it. Would probably have Ted refinish it as well.

As Dutch Lugers go, that is probably a fair representation. That is what most of them look like and having it refinished isn't going to increase the value. Is it all matching and what is the barrel date? If matching, for $900 it is a pretty good buy. Doesn't look like it has a Dutch magazine, but I can't tell for sure from the photos.

He said the gun was all matching including the barrel. Said nothing about a date. Said mag was not right. He is apparently selling for a friend. I will call him tomorrow, but want to know what to ask.

Doug, I would definately check to see if the extractor is correctly marked "Geladen" on both sides. TH

Good point Tom. I once almost bought a Vickers that had "Geladen" on both sides of the extractor, except the right side was engraved!

Non-matching magazine is no problem. Dutch magazines were not matched to the gun and usually totally unnumbered.

The barrel date only appears on arsenal rebarreled/refurbished Dutch lugers. The original, unmodified, barrels retain their normal DWM commercial style numbering (serial number and crown N) or Vickers style proofing.

Not too good finishing is standard for a Dutch luger and I wouldn't mess with it. It's part of the history and totally correct for a Dutch.

The pictures don't seem to display for me. Anything happened to them?

From your picture, the magazine base does not appear to be pinned into place. Is this indeed the case? Does the base have a small spring catch which allows the base to be removed? If so, this mag is an original Dutch magazine, unmodified, a fairly rare and valuable item on its own.

FWIW, the Dutch used both the magazine with the spring-catch (bad idea :) ) and the 'normal' pinned version. Both nickle with wood bottoms.

My 1906 Dutch came with a normal one-pin nickle magazine (unnumbered) and a blued one-pin magazine (unnumbered). Both with wood bottoms.

The pictures show now. And this pistol has a slight problem.
The DWM deliveries went from 1 to 4181 (serial number).
The Vickers from 4182 upwards.

So this one has a serial number in the Vickers range and a DWM toggle. Could well be an arsenal repair. I'd rip it apart and check for G.S. markings everywhere.
