1902 Fat barrel
Gentlemen
A question was asked at the Saturday morning gun club that is way past my Luger knowledge! Does the 1902 have a leaf or a coil main spring? When did they change? Cheers Craig |
Craig,
As far as I know the introduction of the coil main spring was a result of a Dutch requirement in 1904. I'm sure others on this board will be able to give you more details. Balder |
Craig, the 1902 Fat Barrel has the flat main spring. The 1903 French transition and the 1904 Navy have the flat main spring as well. The 1906 model was the first with the improved coiled main spring.

Hi,
The coil spring was introduced in 1904 and it first appeared on technical drawings dating 1904. Although the drawings of the first coil spring version show 'the dutch variation', it's doubtfull that the Dutch had any influence on the design. More likely, Georg figured out that the leaf spring was a flawed design element and already started correcting it, amidst the Dutch trials. The pistol shown on the 1904 drawings is basically the '1906 model'. |
Hey Doc, It was good meeting you at Reno. Hope to see you again.

Thank you all for the information. Cheers Craig |
Ron, It was my pleasure meeting you. I'm very happy that your wife's condition allowed your brief visit. Hope the Almighty smiles favorably on her and you.
