luger use other than german military
since the luger was a useful early selfloading pistol at the turn of the century, i was wondering if anyone had seen photos of its use besides the german military. there had to be firearms enthusiasts who had to have one. i've seen a few photos from the old west that show an occasional one and there was a documentary on the history channel about the AVG flying tigers and one pilot had one in a belt holster. what do you think?

A fine picture that I enjoyed very much.
She has her finger off the trigger. Must be making certain of her target! Someone has a pretty cute granny! Or is that too sexist? [There would be smilies in this post, but I don't know how to add them.} |
Hi,
This is a photo from a 1922 German Handgun book. The Picture shows Mr. E. Muncheberg from Berlin demonstrating his target shooting pose. The book is called "Moderne Faustfeuerwaffen und Ihr Gebrauch" by Gerhard Bock. First issue appeared in 1911, second revised edition in 1922. It focuses mainly on privately owned pistols and sports shooting and shooting techniques. http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/shooting.jpg |
This is actually a photo of Ed taken about a month ago. He was chasing his neighbors out of the dumpster behind his condo.
He has always been a snappy dresser :D |
Well Ron,
It appears that it had your picture in it as well :D ... This is the book's author in action, Mr. Gerhard Bock. http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/bock.jpg |
I seem to remember seeing an old picture of some Texas rangers. One of them was carring a Luger.

Lugers
I think the lady's finger is on the trigger. Some daylight shows throught the trigger guard. Guess it's hard to tell.
I have an aprocryphal story about some one shooting an escaping crook through a ledger book with a 7.65 Luger. The 7.65 being able to penetrate the ledger book was supposed to have saved the day. I wish I could track that down. One of the mysteries is why would a fleeing crook be carrying a ledger book? |
