1939 Mauser Banner commercial

I am contemplating a trade for a 1939 Banner Commercial, but cannot find out if these were rust or salt blued? Small parts are strawed which is correct.

To be "correct" I am told by the experts, the frame, receiver and toggles were rust blued and the barrel was salt blued.

Military strawing ended in '37 (1500t?) but Commercial strawing continued???

Commercial Banners can be found with strawed parts after 1937. They also can be found in 7.65mm Luger.

Doug, what are you going to trade for this banner?

Doug G. 03-24-2005 04:36 PM

I am thinking of trading a SKB 585 Sporting Clays in 28ga LNIB and he wants $300 his way. I am into my gun for just under $1000. So you might as well say $1300.

What percentage of finish left on the Luger? If 90% or better it is probably worth the $1300. Commercial Banners do not come available very often.

Here are the pics of this gun. I think that the rust that shows is a factor of the lighting showing off the patina under the rust blue.

Doug,
I've been watching that one on the auction block for the last few weeks at a considerably higher price than $1300 and would grab it and run for that price were I you. According to Costanzo, the serial number fits in the proper range and the condition looks pretty good for that kind of money. Good luck and let me know if you pass on it.

Doug,

If everything matches, that's a good deal.
