I had never seen one of these for sale, and now TWO within about a month! I suspect Murray's successful sale of his extra one brought this one out of hiding.

Ron, do you think these were the work of our little copy elves??
;)

Ron Wood 03-17-2005 06:32 PM

Hard to say. The photos aren't clear enough to render any kind of objective opinion. In all probability this is a situation of... "Wow, look at the price that last one brought! I've got one, lets see if I can make a killing on mine!". Even if it isn't a copy, at these prices it won't be long until the elves are at work.

Ron, unfortunately your quiet correct. Too bad, casts a light on the joy of collecting. Still ya gotta keep smiling...........!

Well, I am still waiting to receive mine from Murray. (He is on vacation elsewhere in NZ). With nice navy magazines going for $350 and Borchardt magazines going for $1000, I didn't think that the price on this Barring/Cleaning/Hold-open magazine to be too far out. But it did hurt to write the check. As Ron said, these things don't come up for sale very often. I don't think that it would be worth the work for the elves because the demand is too small. The one that I bought would be considered a little better than the one for sale because I have both of the two tightening bars and the one for sale doesn't. I do wonder about the markings on the side but I will see when I get it.

Anyone have any idea what the oil can would cost? What does one look like? There was talk of a screw driver in a previous discussion. what does that look like? What else is needed for a cased set?

Norm,
Go to Chuck Whittaker's web site Land of Borchardt . He has full cased sets of Borchardts and you can see what the oil can and screwdriver looks like. The screwdriver has interchangeable bits and I think it came with three bits. I have seen the screwdriver come up for sale a time or two (don't remember price) but I have never seen an oil can...probably pretty expensive.

Thanks Ron. I had seen the Barring Block at gun shows, so I had an idea what they were. But people at gun shows don't want to let people take too close a look at and then disassemble one. I guess that the price really intimidates a lot of people. Plus, I never thought that I would get one so I never tried hard to take a close look.

Funny how things happen. When I first started collecting Lugers, I never thought that I would ever own a navy Luger. I didn't pay much attention to them because they were so expensive. Now, I have quite a few of them.

I didn't pay much attention to Borchardts either. I thought that because people didn't shoot them, I would never buy one. Now I am thinking about putting together a cased set.
Big Norm
