Price question on non-matching 1920 commercial

I put a down payment on a 1920 .30 commercial. The gun is immaculate--the finish is about 98% and the bore is just a hair short of perfect.

The problem is that the bottom half--frame, sideplate, takedown lever--all have a diffrent # than the top half--barrel, upper receiver (?), and toggle.

The seller is asking $700. If I buy this gun, I would like to shoot it. I doubt there is much collector's value, but is $700 a fair deal on a 98% mismatched gun?

BTW, it has one magazine (no serial#) and no holster.

Maxmanta,

I just about posted some very neagative comments here. I thought about it for a moment, and will only answer your question no, and say that you can buy a pretty nice matching 9mm Luger--for shooting or otherwise--for your $700.

Maxmania, I have a 7.65mm mismatch that I'll sell you for $500 + S&H. TH

Maxmania, spend a little bit more and get a matching gun. The 1920 and 1923 Commercial Lugers are very common, and you should be able to find one that is matching for not much more than $700. The .30 calibers seem to sell for a bit less than the 9mm's, so look around and see what you can find. I like the .30's (I think they have a distinct advantage over the 9's when it comes to reliable chambering). Have you checked out Simpson Ldt.? Or give Ralph Shattuck a call and see what he can do as far as a matching '20 or '23 Commercial. I bought a .30 caliber '23 from Ralph last year that is in about 95% condition, and it shoots great!

Given the current state of my personal finances, it doesn't look like I'll be making the purchase anyway. Once things change, I may contact Lugerdoc about his offer.

Thanks to everyone for replaying!
