Luger display stand

I'd like to build a rack to display my Lugers and P-38's side by side like we've all seen at the gunshows. Anybody have a picture of one they are using that's easy to make? Thanks

I talked with a fellow who said he could build a lazy susan type and that really appealed to me, about 22", space the guns 4" apart on vertical, and tip them all to the right 15-20 degrees so the top and side could be seen at the same time. In the center 4-6 long barreled guns tilted up at a sharper angle so muzzles would make a tee-pee like appearance. He had several woods to choose from. I got his name somewhere if you want it. pjheck@core.com

Johnny, I have a nice factory made wood stand that will hold 7 pistols in a row on pegs that will fit the mag well of most autoloaders, in like new condition @$25 + $10 S&H in USA. Tom Heller POB 398 St.Charles, MO. 63302 or call 636-447-3006.

Thanks for the offer Lugerdoc but I'm just looking for ideas so this old, retired man can make it himself.
P.J. your idea sounds interesting but not quite what I have in mind. Thanks anyway.

I build my stands as single units, but it would be easy enough to put multiple holders on a larger base.

This type of base lets me display the guns in a straight line if I want to, or fan them out like this:

Gayle Fisher of Fort Sandflat products sells a very interesting assortment of racks including one I helped design. It displays the holster along side the pistol. For a leather freak such as I, this is a great thing to have.

I use both the 10 Gun Rack and single Gun Holder from Fort Sandflat. They are both functional and well made. Gayle does a very nice job and is easy to discuss any additional work.

Ron, your stands are beautiful...do you sell them?

Doug,
Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. I make them like furniture with several coats of hand rubbed oil finish, so they take a bit of time. I haven't made any to sell...yet. I doubt that I will have time to make any more for quite a while. I have a ton of landscaping to do for the new house, and I plan to build an entertainment center and display cases for my collection, so my woodworking schedule is pretty well booked up for the near future. Other folks have asked if they were for sale. Maybe I should consider it eventually.

Hi Ron,

Your custom stands are wonderful, but your lugers even more so...I think I see some Swiss ones there and WOW...three (3) Luthy muzzle covers !!!

I thought finding one was a miracle...

Pete...

Ron Wood 03-12-2005 01:01 AM

Thank you Pete.

The muzzle covers are only marked DÃ??POSÃ?? and do not have the Luthy trademark. Perhaps military issue?

The Lugers are all Swiss, from right to left: 1900 Wide Trigger; â??06 Cross in Sunburst; â??06 Cross in Shield; â??06 Waffenfabrik Bern; 1929 Waffenfabrik Bern. I need to update the picture to include my 1900 â??flat button - unrelieved frameâ? example to complete my â??Swiss family portraitâ?Â.

I suppose I should work on the â??29 variations, but there are a bunch of other interests that come first.

I wish I could display my Lugers in a display case in the den but unfortunately the theft of a firearm from my home 15 years ago still remains fresh in my mind. I was lucky that the gun was recovered but even though we moved to the country and feel safer the gun rack I build will have to fit in my safe.

Toggletop makes some really nice looking Luger display stands and if I remember correctly he will make them to order.

Ron,

Since you do not have time to make them, would you consider posting drawings/sketches/whatever you make them from? Part of their beuty is their simplicity, but i bet it took you "a couple of tries" to get it to look as they do.
