Vans Gun Blue
HAs anyone used this to touch up a Luger or reblue a shooter? If so what were the results and how well did it hold up? Any after rust? How durable was it compared to rust, Belgian or hot bluing? Was it better than the other cold blues?

I have tried it and while his display looked very good I never could get any good results with it on any of the guns I tried it on.

I think that at one time or another I have tried every "cold blue" or "touch-up blue" on the market. Best results by far have been with Brownell's Oxpho Blue and Dichropan T-4.

Gotta go with Hugh. The Brownell's Oxpho has worked pretty well on touching up my .45 single-action shooters. The real secret to any touch-up blue is clean-clean-clean...and then clean it one more time. Oil, silicone, CLP, etc. negates any attempt to darken the metal.

The small areas of touch up and two Luger grips screws I did with Van's came out very nicely, but to do a whole gun I am going to try Herter's Belgian Blue with the boiling water and carding with steel wool.
