replacement barrel question
Hi all, without getting into the arcane Canadian gun laws too much I have a question about replacement Luger barrels. I would like to purchase a luger barrel that is at least 4.25" or longer (most Canadians can't own standard P-08s due to the barrel length). Can anyone point me in the direction of retailers or dealers that may sell replacement barrels? While I realize that standard barrel lengths are 4", 6" and 8" are replacement barrels available in other sizes (ie. 4.25" etc).
thanks very much |
I'm no expert by anyones standards, but I don't think barrels come in non-standard sizes. Now for the good news. Some talented gunsmiths have been known to take a long barrel and shorten it. Bad news is it isn't cheep.

Can't put my finger on it, but I've seen at least one posting in ads for Lugers that referenced a 4 3/4" barrel. Or, does that include the threaded section?

Barrel length on a Luger is measured from the face of the breechbolt to the end of the muzzle. It is most easily determined by inserting a new pencil or other small diameter rod into the muzzle until it reaches the closed breechface, mark the item at the point where it exits the muzzle and then withdraw it and measure the length of the pencil or rod to the mark...
For barrels in Canada, try Marstar... |
Thanks John, however Marstar does not carry non-standard sized barrels and are perpetually sold out of 6" barrels...

Naugler,
Check with Tom Heller (Heller Arms) on the links section of the Lugerforum home page. KFS |
Naugler, you might want to try Luger Forum Member "Hugh". He does barrel replacements and who knows what he may have laying around. BTW, if you don't have tooling, it's not a good idea to try a "home" replacement. Good Luck!

Unfortunately, I'm also sold out of the good quality 9x150 (6") and 9x107mm (made specifically for the Canadian market) barrel. I don't like to install the GPC 6" barrels as they require a lot of additional work to get the front sight and extractor goove to line up on the first attempt. Genally the threaded area with have to be shortened and chamber reamed, so not a job for amatures. TH

6'' barrel
Lugerdoc--I'm in the market for a 6'' barrel- Can you give me
price and availability info?? Thanks - Al :) :) :) |
And remember, if you are putting a 6" barrel on a Luger that has the Navy two position sight you must have the higher front sight block or the Luger will shoot REALLY high, like over the target board at 300 meters. Many 6" barrels are set up to work with the stardard rear toggle sight so it really helps to make sure the barrel you are buying will work with the rear sight set up you have.
