Sportsman Guide Luger accesories...
 

Hey Guys,

I noticed that the Sportsmans Guide has a reproduction Luger holster, takedown tool and replacement grips for $60. I was just wondering what you guys thought of these repros and if they're worth buying. $60 seems to be a pretty good price, considering that I don't have the originals and likely won't find them.

They have the takedown toold for twenty bucks, but I figured I should have a holster too.....

Any thoughts?

I originally bought some repro items. Almost universally the quality is not good or as good as originals. The tool bent on me, the holster was too tight, (even if you take into consideration that it should be tight when new).

And actually, on e-bay or from members, or from other websites, you see all of these for sale, sometimes expensive, sometimes reasonable.

For the grips, do you want "shooter" grips? Then buy some east german ones, and a tool could be the same thing, made on orginal manufacturing machines and to specifications.

Repros won't go up in value, real will, even if not in the best of shape...

That's a good point Ed. There is the collector value to consider...

Really all I want is the tool, to be able to strip it and clean it. Check for defects, etc. Ya gotta have the tool...... The other stuff, especially the grips, is just bonus stuff.....

The only problem with the "real" tools and holsters is the price. One can easily spend $60 on a tool. Forget the holster. I would only want the holster to round out the collection. But, as you point out so well, repros don't have any collector value and therefore aren't worth buying to round out the collection...... (kind of circular logic, now that I think about it)

Okay, so I just buy the tool for now. Maybe I stumble on a good deal on a holster or have more spendable cash at some time in the future. It could happen..... :-P

Hey Ed, I've been looking for a source for East German Luger stuff and have come up "snakes eyes" on that roll....... Can you point me in a direction?

As far as fit, are there any issues with w/ the DDR or Russian replacement grips? I have 2 P08s & did not know if a particular type would be best suited for a good fit.

There are. Usually the VoPO Bullseye grips fit remarkably well. I like them because they are great shooting grips and can be modified to fit a 1906-pattern grip-safetly pistol, because the grips are hollow inside.

The Russian-style 'tokarev' grips (black bakelite, with stripe rather than checker pattern' do need some fitting to get a decent fit. But they look pretty smart on a Russian capture piece.

Have no experience with the crappy black checkered grips that came on a bunch of recent Russian exports. These were just provided in order to have something that resembles a grip on them and that shows.
