Thor's Work

I bought a .30 Upper half from Tom Heller a few months ago. Just so I would have a 6" .30 shooter. I love the cartridge. Tom gave me a very good deal on it, due to the condition. Which was pretty rough. Someone had used the wrong tools to install the barrel, and the receiver was deeply marred. It had some pitting and the toggle had the logo ground off. I won a nice DWM replacement toggle train on ebay, from a member of the forum. I sent the whole mess to Ted, with instructions to just make look acceptable, nothing special. I will let the photos speak for themselves.

Very nice. I too made up a 6 inch 30 luger, but haven't shot it yet! Did get two boxes of ammo from sportsman the toher day, when Jerry gets back to CO, I will go down there and we'll pop some caps.

This is the .30 upper mounted on my 1937 S/42 Navy shooter. The Navy upper is above. I am going to build a case for the set, so all I have to do is swap the cannons, when I'm out doing" Jack Rabbit drive-bys" in the desert. I'm Happy! Thanks Ted!!

WOW, that man does some good work. The green eyed monster rears his ugly head again. Is it a sin to covet your neighbors gun?

Chamber marking

Also, Ted and I have both posted inquiries about the odd chamber mark on both forums without success. I have discovered a "possible" explanation. This photo is from page 83 of G¶rtz German Small Arms Markings. The 1917 may not be the year, but a weapon number.
Pure speculation, but plausable. The mark in the photo is on the backstrap and not the chamber, however.

Pipeman, I just better not find you hiding in the hall closet when I come home from work. :D

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. I must give Don Hamilton of this forum credit, he has been doing the TIG filling for me on pistols with really bad gouges or pits. I could not do this kind of work without his help. Thanks Don for the big assist.

Ted surely does some fantastic work. I have seen many of his pieces up close when he has invited me to his home. They are amazing.

Ron, I am like you, the .30 is a sweet shooting round. I too would like to a have a 6" barrel to plink with! Expensive ammo but I have had good luck re loading it with hard cast lead bullets.

Ed, I am anxious to get back and do some shooting! Any time you and Terry can break away and come down your welcome! I have had so much holster repair and other work this Winter I have not had time to get out shooting here....Jerry Burney
