Luger at Montgomery Ala show
Saw a 1939 S/42 serial number 162xa at the Montgomery Ala show today. Matching except for mag. did not take the grips off. Rear toggle pin was numbered to the gun.
The extractor was plum colored, all other small parts blue except sear spring was bright and safety where the number is located was bright. . Pistol was priced at $1,100. Nice looking piece. David. Rest of finish looked correct but I am not an expert on this. |
Re: Luger at Montgomery Ala show
Are all rear axle pins stamped in the same location? (Military vs. Commercial) I can't remember reading anything regarding variations of serial stamps on the ends or shaft of the pins. As to the pistol David mentions..anything over $1K that I am seriously interested in always gets a pretty thorough 'shake-down'.

Re: a Block?
The 1939 S/42 Code is a fairly scarce pistol as Mauser militaries go, but they started in the n block and went into the r block. The 1939 42 code went well into the z block, but I don't believe they made it to the a block.

Re: a Block?
This is just what I thought the letter looked like. It was like an "o" with a tail at the left bottom and a tail at the right top. David.

Re: a Block?
What you describe is an o and puts the S/42 in the proper suffix block.
