I don't know what is the best.

But most factorys are using soapwater.

What .17 caliber is it?

I am currently assembling a .17 ackley hornet for myself, based on an old Brno action.

Rick W. I have resized 30-06 down to 25-06 with an intermediate .270 step. I nearly always use Anhydrous Lanolin. I was able to buy it at a Drug Store, but you may have to find an old-time store to get it.

Re: sizing lubricant

Rick, you won't find anything better than Imperial Sizing Die Wax. I quit using "the greasy stuff" years ago when I discovered it. Another good one is Silicon Spray Lubricant as found in the Automotive Parts stores. These are the only two I have used for the past 15 years, and no clean up afterward.
