Repoduction Walnut grips..fitting?
 

Just curious...
I have 2 pair of reproduction walnut grips.
Q: Is it common to have to hand fit these grips to the pistol?
one set is old and the right panel is sloppy at top..time to sell on e-bay.
The other set is new/old stock..and does not fit at top safety toggle latch area.
I will handfit as needed. Just needed a good set of shooter grips and wondered if anyone else has run into this problem.

Would like to buy a good set of original walnut grips for the "42" from Hugh Clark and am wondering if these will have to be hand fitted as well.

My experience is limited to two pairs of Nils grips but in both cases a small amount of hand fitting was required. KFS

It is very rare that repro grips fit without some trimming . . . . even Nil grips.

Better to need trimming than to be a bit too small!

Anything from Hugh should be good. He will at least be sure what he sells fits one of his guns. Good luck.

Since many lugers vary in dimention in the grip area, all new repro grips come oversized so that they can be fitted to an indivigil pistol. The danger with purchasing any used grips that have previously been fitted, is that they may be loose in your frame. So if possible, take your frame along to show or where ever, to try the grips, before you purchase or if mail order, buy from someone who will take them back if they don't fit your PO8. TH

I have a set of $35.00 replacement grips I will experiment on for if and when I shoot.
I have contacted Hugh and he has a set of originals that I will probably
buy for non shooting/display only.

Hey guys, the only grips that fit are the nill grips and originals. All others repros will require lots of hand fitting and adjusting.

Fitting
 

In my case the left grip panel of my brand new 'Nills' needed some fitting, takes a lot of patience and care, but...oh what a result :D

I am a big fan of the Nill grips from Germany, but i wish that they did not make the checkering so course. They really bite your hand, and i know the originals were not like this.
thats my opinion on the subject...

I have wondered about the checkering too, but a like new set of grips is very sharp also.


Maybe we are just used to them being worn down?

I really liked the grips on my Mitchell luger. The color was gorgeous, they felt good in the hand, and they fit the Mitchell beautifully. I was wondering what brand of grips Mr. Romo put on these guns, and how well they would fit the older lugers.
