Some things about this holster just don't ring true...

A P08 on the rear for one?

The color and stitching don't look right?

I would guess that, if not home made, it is one of the many odd variations of Bulgarian holsters that someone with a sense of humor has decided to jazz up a bit. For instance, maker marked "G. Holster"?!! Would that be "Gun Holster" or "German Holster" or "Goofy Holster"....etc.? I am no authority but I don't think they started marking Luger stuff with P08 until WWII, and 1918 predates that by a bit.

Actually guys, it is right in all respects. The Bulgars purchased many holsters from German saddlers. The P08 designation was applied to differenciate the holsters intended usage from the other side arms the Bulgars used, like the Browning 1903 and 1910,Roth Steyer, etc I have had several over the years and in fact sold one to a forum member some years ago.

Interesting

This is a forum member "Hessian". I bought my 1911 Erfurt with three unit marks from him. He sent me one of these holsters with it. They appear to have been dipped in a thick red dye, almost like paint. He is importing all kinds of stuff from the old Iron Curtain countries. He's an up front guy. I have known him casually for several years.

Well, I have dealt with this guy too, and he has treated me fairly and seems like a good guy. Just an interesting holster, and like you said Ron S., interesting stuff coming out of the old curtain, and like Ron said... interesting

I have a 1910 (1911?) dated Bulgarian Holster on the same pattern. It also has the same tool pouch arrangement. A few pictures are on this holster forum under the the thread "holster???"

Ron Wood 01-27-2005 07:30 PM

Heinz,
Yours I can go along with. It looks like German craftsmanship. The holster in this thread looks like Bulgarian work. The irregular stitching is the principal clue. Could be legitimate, but I think I will stick with interesting. It doesn't appear that yours has the "P08" marking. I haven't seen a Bulgarian holster with P08 before...doesn't mean it is wrong, but it does seem odd. Wonder if Jerry Burney has any insight on this?

Heinz 01-27-2005 08:03 PM

Ron, mine definitely does not have the P08 marking.

The quality of themanufacture on mine is very good and consistent with the date and German manufacture but the leather appears to be "softer" or maybe thinner than the Imperial German holster with the result that there is some collapsing of the structure.

Interesting is a good word. I also await Jerry's input. I do note he has not bid on it :-)

lugerholsterrepair 01-28-2005 08:28 PM

No Gentlemen, I would never bid on this holster. Not that it's not authentic but it simply isn't my cup O tea. I would have to agree with Tom A. If he says it's authentic who am I to say otherwise?

I have not had the opportunity to study these to any extent. The construction is certainly Bulgarian. This never was a German design for a P-08.

I agree with Ron that the Name stamped into it is humorous.

I have said many times I know how to fix em but I leave the real expertise to fellows like Tom A. I am still a student.

Thank you Jerry. It remains interesting.

George Anderson 01-28-2005 10:23 PM

Though it may be of Bulgarian manufacture, it's still a P.O.S. Tom, surely no German sattler made that thing and who stamped the "P08" into it? Unless I am mistaken I think the "little slavs" like their neighbors the Russians use the cyrillic alphabet.

I think that this holster, like all the Iron Crosses and Waffen SS uniforms pouring out of the old "East Block" is a poor attempt at fakery.

Ron Wood 01-29-2005 12:15 AM

Interesting...Oops, I guess I already said that.
