Please Help ID this SOG Luger
 

I just got this from sog. the markings are as follows
on the action: S/42
on the top of the frame: 1917 (im guessing the date)
left side has SN: 10XX over another number 75XX
the barrel has what looks like a M over a _ over a X with a little line througth the center and 8.83 (bore I.D.?) i am attaching a pic of the right side markings. From what i have read from other posts about the SOG guns its a east german refinish, but i would like to know what kind of finish it would have had originally. BTW if you are going to get one of these there is a dot matrix style stamping with the importer name on the left side of the frame and the bore shows mild scale, and i was told most are like this. The right-frame markings are those of a WWI Erfurt, determined by the style of the Eagle stamping at right. The receiver should have a notch milled into it right at the front on top if it is indeed 1917.

The receiver would have been rust blued. The S/42 toggle could have been rust blued or salt blued, depending on the year it was manufactured. There is no reliable way to determine this date from the parts.

You do not describe any of the frame markings, so it is not possible to guess what it might be.

I can't interpret the barrel markings from your description. Your photo of the receiver marks is very good, photos of the other marks would be interesting.

The figure on the barrel is a crown-over-X, an inspector's mark. If an Erfurt barrel/receiver, c/X is unusual in combination with the marks found on the right receiver. One would expect to see the same eagle on the barrel as found on the receiver.

You do not note if there is a notch at the front edge of the receiver top.

It appears that there are no indpector stamps on the frame, and the profile of the frame rail is not Erfurt-like. There is no reliable to tell whether the frame is of DWM or Mauser manufacture.
