Another New Luger Owner

Hello... I've been reading the posts here for awhile & have gotten some helpful info... Thanks!

I finally bought my first Luger... Fed Ex has it rite now, but I should have my sweaty palms on it tomorrow.

I bought it as a Shooter, $550 incl shipping & transfer fees... It is a Mauser made in 1936... I'll try to post some Pics here that I was sent of it.

As I stated I bought it to shoot & I plan to use Winchester Target ammo from WalMart... I bought 200 rounds today....
My Question is..... Is there anything specifically that I look at first to make sure everything is in order before I take it to the range?

Thanks!

Welcome to the club of Luger lunatics. Hope others reply since I don't know a lot. Make sure the toggle and breach are closing properly before you fire a round as the gun will fire when slightly open. Thats bad news, both for the gun and the shooter. Try one round at a time for a few shots, then two until you are reasonably confident it won't go full auto. Start with a clean and well oiled gun and good luck.

I am afraid, I usually just check it over, looking for cracks or other problems. Then see if it appears tight, if it works without rounds, then take her shooting....

But..... Any doubts, then take it to a gunsmith, have him or her run a headspace gauge, check for tolerences, etc.

Here's an update on my Shooter...
Picked it up Sat, disassembled it & found Everything looked Very Good & it has an Excellent bore...
I dont think it has been fired a lot & it looks Much better in person than in the Pics....
Took it out to the range Sun AM & after our CAS Match the First thing I discovered is why some people use a loading tool on the mag... dang thats a stiff spring!
But I was able to put quite a few rounds downrange & it shoots just a tad high but Very Nicely... I wish I could have stayed longer & shot it More, but the windchill was 19 & after about 4 hours in that I was ready to go find a Fire.
Thanks Folks!

19 in Texas sucks! (even windchill at 19 is cold!!)

Glad you like her, lugers are fun as all get out,

Ed
