Simson & Co. Luger Questions

I want to purchase a Simson & Co Luger.

I am hoping to verify to years of producion (1923-1933?) and serial number runs if possible. From my limited Luger knowledge, I understand that Simpson & Co. bought the rights to manufacture the Luger until the Nazi Government took over production since Simson was jewish. (True?)

I would also like to purchase one (or two) of these for collecting and shooting. Therefore, sources would be helpful.

S-

Shawn

P.S. Be kind, I am a 1911 guy and have never fired a Luger.

Shawn, Welcome !!!

It is true !! Simpson was jewish and the Luger production was taken from him and turned over to Kreighoff. There are several potential sources of Simpson Lugers. On the left margin under Links and Resources you might contact Tom Heller (Heller Arms), Ralph Shattuck (World of Lugers) or Bob Simpson (Simpsons LTD). I would guess any of these fine gentlemen might help.

Re: Simson & Co. Luger Questions

Hi,

According to Jan Still's book, "Weimar Lugers", Simson production started in April of 1924 and ended on March 31 of 1934. In 1922 Simson was awarded the major contract for repairing and reburbishing Lugers. They were probably doing this as early as around 1919. The serial range runs from the no suffix to about 2000 A on the new manufactured Lugers. Somewhere around 12,000 total were produced of new manufacture.

Shawn, I do have a mismatched Simson toggled Russian rework available in the classified @$500. Just sold my last matching one to another Forum member last month.

That would be me what bought the aforementioned Simson.

I am happy with it. I am remiss in not mentioning this sooner.

You would probably be better off with a Mauser Luger as they are cheaper and much easyer to find second hand.

Most likely will mauser also have better parts in the complete gun than simson have due to changes in steelquality.
