Walther P5

I just bought a Walther P5 to replace a Sig 225 that was stolen. The serial number is 101298 does anyone know how to date these weapons? It is stamped Interarms Alexandria Made in Germany.

Jim, The closest that I can come is based on the info on page 103 of Dieter Marschall's exc book "Walther Pistols M1 through P99", is that your 101xxx serial P5 was made slightly after 1992. TH

Thanks for the help guys.I found the Stags Antler/Ulm Proofmark and in front of it are the letters KC.I wonder if that might be a date code?

I might have found the answer to my question over at Walther Diskussionsforum. There is a date code on these guns that is sometimes in letters with KC standing for 92 which puts it right where Lugerdoc was at.Does anyone know of a source for factory magazines for this weapon?Got two with the gun,but would like a couple more.
Thanks Again,
Jim

I agree with the 92 date code (1970s were H, 1980s I, and 1990s K with the second letter being A=0, B=1, C=2, etc.). I have a couple of original Walther P5 mags available @$50 each. TH

What is the condition of the mags, mainly are the lips straight and never changed and are the tubes dent free?Followers straight and unchanged?Springs? It seems most semi-auto problems are with maagazines. For me anyway.
Thanks,
Jim

I had one of these and had problems with it. The mag wouldn't keep the first round in it. Wouldn't hold it in well. The gun functioned fine, just that damn first round in the mag.

Hey minigun,
Did the gun double feed?Or would the first round pop when it the mag was inserted into the mag well?Did downloading the mag by one round cure things?Did it do it with other mags?Sorry about all questions,I'm just curious about these guns.

Hello,
Sorry for the delayed feedback. No, the P5 never double fed, it's just the first round in the mag would never "seat" right. It would pop out if the mag was not inserted. The round would do alright if the mag was inserted in the gun. Basically I'd have to have one less round in the mag to prevent this from happening. Never had the gun to jam or double feed.

Minigun,

can it be that the mag spring is upside down?
The first round in the P5 mags never sit proper, but it should not cause any problems!
how much winds do your spring have?

minigun 09-22-2003 12:50 PM

Hello,
I don't have the gun anymore. Both of my mags for that gun had the first round problem. I don't think that the springs were upside down. It never caused any functional problems with the pistol, just when the mags were out of the pistol did it become a problem. The first round would pop out of the mag easily.
