Colt SAA barrel thread?
 

I own an original Colt Single Action Army in 44-40 with a terribly corroded barrel. Sarco is selling New but old stock Colt 7-1/2 inch barrels for $99.50 but the notation says (new thread) Does anyone know if these barrels will fit a Colt SAA frame made in the 1880's. My frame is a first generation frame that uses a screw to hold the cylinder pin in rather than the spring-loaded pushtype release for the cylinder pin.

Hi John,

You might want to call them to confirm, but I think the SAA Series One Colt SAA was from your era (1873) through to about 1941 (First Generation). The change to the new series occured when Colt re-introduced the SAA a short time later in 1956, and I believe those are what the "New Thread" would fit....

As the others have posted, the short answer is no.

FYI, a somewhat longer answer is (based on reference material that I have) the barrel thread for 1st generation SAAs (ser. nos. 1-357,859) is 0.695-20 tpi; for 2nd generation SAAs(ser. nos. 0001SA-73319SA) it is also 0.695-20 tpi. The 2nd generation barrels did have different bore and groove dimensions as well as exterior markings. 3rd generation SAAs (ser. no. 80,000SA and up, SA01001 and up, and S02001A and up) have 0.695"-24 tpi barrel threads.
