Little advice
I got the high power bug real bad, have been thinking about a Fulton Armory M14 or a FAL, have located this one:
DSA STG58A Austrian FAL Rifle with Type II Receiver and Springfield 1st gen scope. The rifle is in excellent condition and I am the original owner. The Springfield scope is a 1st gen 4-14X 56 Rangefinding 30MM. It also comes with a DSA scope mount, Butler Creek flip up covers, rings, padded sling and a cheekrest. I will also include 10 preban 20rnd mags and 2 carrying pouches (carrys 2 each). $1150 plus $35 S&H It looks good to me, lowest price I've found on a DSA STG58A is $900, the scope is about $400, rings $60, scope mount $100, magazines $100, sling & cheekrest about $50. I could put $1600 in it and that would get the gun accessories and 1600 rounds of Australian .308 from ammoman. ($179 for 800 shipped) What about it? Wonder if you can hunt deer and coyotes with it? rk |
I do not know about the STG58, now banned here in Ca., but as to the M1A, and I own two, hotter heaver bullets can bend the op rod, do bolt and reciever damage, while I am sure M-80 ammo or equal is OK, hunting ammo may cause some damage. I am sure that somewhere there is a STG58 forum that can be of help.

Hi,
The Steyr-produced FAL is one of the better FAL versions. We have one at our shooting club and it sees regular action. Very reliable. In demonstration: during the same time we had the Steyr, an Olympic AR15 and a SIG PE90 have been severely damaged. It's a perfect match for the big old ladies like the K98 and the M1/Garand. If you don't hit game, they'll at least go deaf :) |
RK, I have an FAL now and used to have an M14. I also qualified with the M14 in basic a few years ago. Go for the M14. I regret having sold mine.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your input.

Thanks Tac, you wouldn't have had any personal experience with a FAL, would you?

Tac,
sounds like these were the times the UK had REAL rifles. From what I hear the SA 80 family seems not to be exactly a reliable piece - Tupperware.... Juergen |
TAC, how unlike you to be sarcastically humorous :D ... while being factual... So you are back from your "holiday" eh? Hope it was a good one.

Tac, you are absoultely right. I was definiely "taking the piss". Gotta remember that one. Will use it to impress some of my buddies.

I hope so dear friend.

Tac, I stumbled across Ed in Colorado by accident, and Tom ended up down here for a while so I got to meet him, then Ed got lost and ended up in Tennesse so I saw him again, but if you ever find your way below the Mason Dixon line you have a sincere open invitation to come on down, stay a while and get all my guns dirty.

NIAM/NIEHR TRUFKNARF would do for me, on the way to Granite State.
