Unusual HSc
 

I have seen some post war Mauser HSc pistols made by the French after they captured the facory. (No French markings on this gun) However, all of these examples had the serial number on the grip strap in the usual location, this pistol does not. Got it for $275.00 at a local gun shop, he acquired it from an elderly person who brought it in, the owner of the shop knows I like this stuff.

Have any of you ever seen this variation?

Mark, The slide legend in your photo is too small for me to read. What about other features that changed over time: eg lanyard hole at the base of rear grip strap, matted sight channel, etc. Does the pistol, have any serial numbers or proofs at all? Th

The slide looks just like the late war 5th variation HSc's with the 3 heavy lines on the slide, smooth sight channel and the frame has no lanyard hole. Mag does not have the early Mauser banner. No proof or acceptance stamps and only the numbers 039 on the barrel and under the slide. (in the usual location). The grips are late war bakelite. The finish on the gun is better than late war examples I have seen with the metal parts being polished before the gun was blued although the blue job is not a very high quality and thin in some areas.

Mark, Without physically seeing your HSc, the following possibilities come to mind: Late war spare parts or a "lunch Box" special, assembled and blued outside of factory; Assembled at factory under GI supervision, similar to some late unproofed unnumbered PPs that I've seen; one hell of a good gunsmith polish & reblue.
