The byf43 identifies it as a 1943 Mauser...
Is that a "n" on the 9952? About mid year production... |
johnny; yes it is an "n"

Bill, The serials (141) on the slide of your AC/43 look a bit strange and I don't see a WaA in its normal location on the frame. TH

Tom, I agree. That early a pistol in the byf 43 series should have an early frame (no trigger pin reinforcement) and slide (with extractor cut). This one has a late frame and slide.
Also I think I see an eagle marking behind the serial on the slide. It doesn't look like a Waffenamt Mark! A closer more detailed photo might help! |
I am not as technically up to date as some of the members. I just bought these guns recently at local gun shows, and did not even look at the marking or serial numbers. The 141 has an eagle beside it and on the ride slide there is an eagle with a capital "L". That is the only mark on the right slide. The 141 is also stamped under the barrel on the front. I will try to post more pictures. thanks bigbill

Bill,
* Your byf'43, S/N 141, is a P.38 made by Mauser for the Police. The L/H slide Eagle should be an Eagle N commercial proof. The R/H slide Eagle L is the Police Inspector's Acceptance mark. * Interesting is the E/N mark location between the S/N and the tip of the safety/Hammer dropping lever. Later Police P.38's had this mark moved to the left of the S/N. * Most of these Police guns are thought to have been assembled in 1944; hence, the "humped" frame & unrelieved extractor cut.
