I have tried to find some info on these unit markings but they do not seem to match the normal markings. Please see the pictures and let me know your thoughts. Thanks

I'm going to take a WAG and say it's: 1st Inf Reg, 5th Co, Weapon #101 .
Mike:confused: |
never seen regiment markings on the back of reciever instead of gripstrap...Is that a notch for an arty sight on the front?
a 1917 dwm arty reciever with a reichswer property stamp a 4 inch barrel and unit marked, numbers matching. whoah |
The markings appear to be 1922 Reichswehr provisional markings. Units were instructed to mark the pistols as the unit commander saw fit in a location other than the traditional front strap which was to be reserved until final official marking regulations were issued.
|
So, this might be 5th Inf, 1st Co ??

Perhaps 1st Regiment. Perhaps 5th Regiment. Since markings were "provisional" there is no standard.

The order "stamping of infantry weapons" came in April 1921.
Only the number of the company and the weapon number (in the company) should be stamped. We will never know really what the stamp on the Luger means. The correct stamping order came in November 1922. |
Thanks for the info guys. I will continue to look. I am a 1911 guy and thought that they had a lot to know about them. Lugers look to be even tougher to gather info.
