EG Breechblocks! Issues!
 

Hi To all, I have quite a few EG post war made breechblocks, the are marked on the bottom with a part number, bo stamped or engraved, and another electro penciled on. Anyway, they look nice, and although you still need to fit the parts somewhat, they can be used, it would seem, as a nice replacement for the blown out blocks from past history. Well, it turns out, not so much!!!! :eek: The problem with them is that they will strip a round from the mag and feed it anywhere from half to two thirds of the way into the chamber and then it will stop, SOLIDLY, and that's it, a tight jam? If you swap out an original toggle train, or original breechblock, it will work fine, kind of, sort of, eliminating the barreled receiver, feed ramp possibilities. Anyway, if any of you have run into this, please feel free to join in on the discussion! I need to experiment - when they were selling them on ebay, I ended up buying 18 or 20 of them, only a handful are actual DDR made, the rest are imperial, weimar and mauser made

Well, another sleepless night in the Hobbit Luger repair village!! Soooo, this morning, with calipers in hand, I went out to face my old nemisis, the dragon of ignorance! After a few minuted I decided that dimension difference couldn't be the issue, because even though there were variances, they were all well within the tolerances on the print, and identical to my few examples of original breechblocks! Soooo, I eliminated all the other possible culprits, extractor, firing pin,, ejector so it was just breechblock and feed ramp and any contact areas inbetween? I learned a long time ago that when trouble shooting, you need to eliminate variables, and focus on the task at hand, and so that's what I did! I turned my attention to the rim of the breechblock and decided that the inside part of the breechface rim was too sharp? So, out come the dremel with the most coarse polishing buff I could find and with that, polished the breechblock face enough to redius the sharp edge, but not change the dimensions overall.. To be truthfull, I didn't think it was the issue, but when I installed it into my test pistol, it worked great! So, they can be made to work? I might try to make a chamfer tool to just break the edge as I have quite a few of these problem child EG parts! But for now, we are aware and most of the elves are smiling...Hands are healing, and the next project is coming up! I wonder if a bunch of these EG parts were rejects and why they were left over?

That's what I'm starting to think as well? They all seem to have something not quite right? But, I'm starting to think they may be usable down the road as we learn more about their shortcomings! I'm kind of excited to get to the range and see if they work dynamically? That's the real test.. Now I'm also going to go back and retry the initial receiver and see if it was just the EG breechblock the whole time???? :eek: I got my best elves on it... You measure and test with them?

G.T., as you figure each one out and get it to work, you need a Crown/RC stamp to show that they're OK to use.

Better, a Crown/GT stamp. Masterworks should be properly signed.
