Hi all.

I have owned a number of Lugers, some of which I sold, sadly.

I came across the example shown here recently and I thought that, for the price, it would make a good shooter.

In any event, it seemed more interesting the more I looked at it. It is commercial and there are no import marks. The bore looks as good as a brand new firearm. All of the visible numbers match.

I'd like to know what I have. I(t does not look like the typical chromed bring-back. Could this be one of the transcendentally rare examples of Luger from the Waffen SS Syncopated Drill Team?

I'd like to get a handle on the date of manufacture and the caliber.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

9mm or 7.65? It seems to be a commercial, with a Q suffix. Q block was made last 3 quarters of 1927 and into the first quarter of 1928


Oh, and it was issued to the SD ice hockey team.

The small eagle on the bottom of the barrel above the serial number is interesting. It is typically found on 9-mm replacement barrels of police Lugers that were purchased as .30-cal and rebarrelled. It is thought to indicate reworking by Simson.

Hockey team ... makes sense.

So, its a commercial, what caliber is it? A normal pencil will not fit into a 30 luger, but will fall down a 9mm

A commercial luger that most likely went into army service or police, but probably army, then at some point someone in the USA chromed it (although it was done by GI's after the war also).

9mm. It does not look like the plating was a schlock job, numbers and marks seem pretty sharp.

There don't seem to be any "official" marks except for the eagle on the barrel. Is that consistent with your interpretation?

Definately not factory applied finish. Heavily polished with rounded edges. TH

I found that the grips are both marked with the sn and a set of initials: JMA

Is this an inspector?
