I love your guns! Thank you for the great photos. I am also a big fan of the Swiss Lugers.

I prepared this image for an article about Lugers in a Spanish Magazine
https://i.postimg.cc/MpSchpHg/E-24.jpg By the way Ron ... I very much share your way of thinking, I mean your signature. .. To many Spanish friends who are fans of lugers, I also say: A prestigious moderator of the best forum about lugers says: If it's made after 1918...it's a reproduction |

Hugh,
They are Swiss muzzle protectors made by Luthy. I took the photo of that group of Swiss Lugers about 20 years ago. I still have them and I have since added #109 Swiss Military with unrelieved frame and flat button magazine. Very nice condition and one of the best guns in my collection. |
Ron,
I too am not familiar with the muzzle protectors. Could you tell us a little about them and their use? Were they fitted during storage or shipping or issued to the soldiers for field use ? Thanks for another gem of information about the Swiss Lugers. Mark PS to Castellano, Thanks for the photos of your very nice Swiss Lugers. I have an 06 Bern and hoping to find some other models. |
Honestly, I do not know how or when the muzzle protectors were used. I guess it is just part of the Swiss love of Lugers. The Swiss used the Luger regularly in competition so perhaps is as simple as keeping a scrupulously cleaned bore spotless between matches. I have seen the photos of the Luthy device in books but never any explanation regarding their use.

I think that this piece accompanied almost all factory Lugers P-06/29 pistols. It is common to find Lugers P-06/29 pistols in Swiss gun shops with that piece attached.
