Why did they do away with grip safety? Was the 1920 Carbine the last luger produced? Because they were forced to used earlier part from Imperial era? Were there and carbines without the grip?

When using the old style long luger frame, it is set up for the grip safety. Many '20 commerical carbine were made using shoot PO8 frames without the griip safety. TH

TKS Tom~ Why did they do away with the grip safety after 1906?

They didn't.

Some contracts required the grip safety, others didn't.
So grip safety Lugers have been available, and built, as long as the Luger was made.

Post war, it was a requirement to get the new Mauser Lugers through safety tests.
