Black Stoeger Luger
I saw a black Stoeger Navy model luger on the Rock Island Auction site. Are these stainless too with just some sort of coating to make them appear to be blued? Thank you in advance.

There are at least two "generations" of Stoeger luger.
There are some blued ones for sure, if "black" it may be a coating applied to the later version of stainless steel; or just a late "blued" pistol with very dark "black oxide" finish. More data, pictures or a link to the auction page would help. |
I am no computer whiz so if this link doesn't work the pistol is at Rock Island Auction and is lot #1014. Here is the link (I hope). https://www.rockislandauction.com/de...stol-with-case

Aimco's last-produced Luger was the 1900/2000 commemorative series of 350 pistols. Stainless like all the rest...but with black Cerokote. The Stoeger in the link is a "2-line" example from the 20s, after military style serial numbering of commercials began. I wouldn't call it a Navy because it has standard rear sight. Stoeger installed custom length barrels to order after the guns reached the U.S. Serial number listed oddly backwards, 5577n. This nice pistol will go for beau coup bucks.

Mine, as an auction purchase, came gun only, and with one mag that really didn't fit or function very well. I still had two of the smooth-sided stainless mags with the eagles cast into the plastic bottom's knobs, and they are just right. Finally, what would you suggest for getting ahold of one of those medals? :) |
The only things I saw at the show were the guns, there were no boxes or accessories on display.
I wish I could point you to a source for medals. Sadly, I have only two left, one I have modified to fasten to my gun show name tag and the other I occasionally wear on my jacket when I'm not wearing my name tag. I wish I had some more! I think Mark has sold or given away all of his also. After 20 years I doubt that the guy that made the medals still has the dies and I don't even know who he is, Mark handled that end. Ron |
I called it black and a Navy because Rock Island did in their ad. I have seen pictures of Stoeger Lugers made by DWM. Rock Island has one for sale in their next auction. Evidently no one else agreed it was worth big money. It sold for $1495. It did not have DWM marking and I think it must have been a new stainless reproduction
