WE BOUGHT OUR HOME IN PORT ST LUCIE FOR $72k EIGHT MONTHS AGO! AND COMPS ARE NOW $ 160K. ALL OVER FLORIDA SO THE SAME OR MORE!!!! I'M GLAD WE PAID CASH LAST YEAR!! I WONDER IF ITS THIS THE NORM ELSEWHERE?!

In my area, the answer seems to be yes. I live in Pennsylvania. We recently re-mortgaged to take advantage of the low interest rates and the value of our property has almost doubled since we bought it.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Property is one of those investments that almost always appreciates in value. Collecting Lugers is MUCH MORE fun though... :D

Most folks don't pay cash in full for their real estate. If you take out a 30 year note like the rest of the USA, you will essentially double the cost of your house. NOT a bargain. Best if you save your pennies and pay as much up front as possible, or at least pay an extra 100 or 200 a month on the mortgage, it results in HUGE savings, and pays off the note in half the time.
Our property tax assessments this year just came in at about 10% higher than last year.
Remember also, in all things, the dollar is rapidly devaluing. That is why it takes so many to buy anything.
People always say, "prices are sure going up"....NOT TRUE. The dollar is going down. That is why it "costs more". And in a big way. Soon our little children will be down on the beach making bracelets out of 100 dollar bills, like they do in Venezuela. Because our money will be worthless, like Germany in the 20's. Or Zimbabwe, right now.(Out of my paper money collection).http://forum.lugerforum.com/attachme...1&d=1646807043

I'm Glad I Moved From Bayonne!

We built in 2019 and moved in September of that year. Custom house at just under 3K sq feet.
Price was 486K, recent estimate is now 780K. I was flabbergasted. House down the street, 1850 sq ft just sold for 600K. I'm very glad we got here when we did, we couldn't do it now. My biggest worry now is my property tax. Idaho has an owner/ occupied discount of 125K which offsets some of the tax bill. There is a move starting here to have something similar to California Prop 13.

In this bizarre economy everything seems to be going up in price, including real-estate, automobiles, labor, commodities. The real question is, what hasn't risen in price (even net of inflation rate)?

I needed a new car so last month I bought a modestly optioned, new Lexus RX 350. Darn, the best deal I could get was $1k off the MSRP. I was happy and lucky I didn't get gouged for a market premium fee. I had to wait several months to find one. I'm 70 yo and that is the most I've paid/closest to sticker MSRP of any vehicle I've purchased.
Another question to pose, is when will the shortages of everything and inflated prices end? Not soon I fear.

Nice used cars are up almost 100%

Built in 2013 , 1706 sq ft on 2.5 acres in Alaska $250,000 at 4.25% (That's a good deal then here in Alaska) refinanced the remaining $215,000 last year at 2.25 % no cash out, houses like mine now on the open marked for for $426,000.

I'm fortunate in a way because I'm a Disabled Veteran so I get some property tax relief at least to offset it but that just means they overvalue all the homes to make up for it

God Bless!

Though one might seem to be "cashing in" on houses or whatever that now have higher dollar values attached than when purchased, one must also consider the hit they'll suffer when replacing whatever it is.

When I got married in 1970, we both worked for less than $2.50/hr--the SO at Flying Training at the Pentagon, and I at a funeral home as basically an apprentice. We paid off a car loan in one year and still had savings.
