early Krieghoff

Gentlemen:

I tend to collect Imperial Lugers and accidentally came to own a Krieghoff. The information I have about the gun comes from Still's "Weimar Lugers" and personal correspondence. I put this information out to supplement in a small way the Krieghoff data bases and also to learn more about this gun from your postings.

The gun is a c. 94% condition rework of a DWM artillery Luger with a notched frame and a replaced, unnumbered rear toggle section (to provide a rear sight). There is no chamber date, likewise, the proofs on the right frame are gone and replaced with an Eagle/9 (the "9" is not a type-o). The serial number is 1682 i (curious how a WWI rework fits into the Krieghoff i block). The gun is all matching with a replaced barrel marked C/N and 8.82. There are no Kreighoff logos or stamps anywhere, only two lazy "C/N's" forward of the sideplate and one next to the extactor.

I have photos of this gun but can't figure out how to post them. Please advise.

Hi Shelly..!

You can send the photos to me if you'd like, and I can post them in this thread for you..? Simply send them to johnd@rennlist.com - and I'll post them when I come on line... I'd like to take a look with some of the other folks before commenting more fully except to note that in the "i" block, most HK "commercial" reworks were in the 2000i to the 10000i range, and were typically backframed stamped.

HK reworks of militaries will typically have C/N, left side reciever along with the left rail - and possibly a LWaA2 on the right. However - these reworks can and will be found throughout the serialized ranges for both DWM, Erfurt, etc. I'd be very interested to see detail photos of the following, if you have them... Muzzle-end and sight base, left side of the toggle, frame serial number, C/N stamp detail next to extractor specificially and C/N on the barrel.

Best to you - and I'll assist with posting your photos!

BTW.....

Since no one has commented back since I posted these pics a while ago.....

Very nice!!!! See my post before you sent the pics- asking what to look for and what I wanted close-ups of for definition... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Yes - the photo's confirm that post - and your HK rework. Very nice..........!!!! :D

Also - if you are into Kriegs - you may want to purchase Mr. Gibson's excellent book on the same. While it is somewhat older then newer publications - it is the "reference" from which other materials/information would be stemmed. Newer information, only as an update to Mr. Gibson's excellent work and research, would be forthcoming from some authors.

Do my eyes tellme correctly that there is no witness mark on the barrel?

Hi Dwight,

On an HK rework from a Military with a BBl replacement, I don't think it should? Which reminds me - I still owe you the info from my database on the HK witness marks..??!!!

Dwight Gruber 12-14-2003 09:40 PM

John D,

Yes I think no mark should be proper, just wanting to confirm another data point...
