S&W Model 41...

Couple of shots of my recent gun show find...a nice S&W Model 41 in 22. LR...

I believe this one dates back to the late 1950's...

Great, fun shooter at a bit over $ 700.00...was never fired, prior to getting my hands on her...

Looks nice Pete!

Never shot one, but it looks like it fits like a glove?

I competed in collegiate level pistol matches in the mid 1960's with S&W model 41's... The college owned them, not me... can you even imagine an liberal arts college having a pistol team in this day and age?

Congrats on your acquisition...They are a great .22 caliber pistol. :)

I considered having one of the short barrel models for a .22 caliber auto trail gun for a while, but when the time came to spend the money I bought a couple of 1911 .45 caliber "kits" (everything except a 1911A1 Frame) instead...

Hello Rick W,.

Thanks for letting me know so much is available for the Model 41...

I did a auction board search and can see many accessories available...

Upgrading my pistol is certainly tempting, but I think I need to discipline myself more and save those "luger dollars"...

Hello John S.,

In the very early 1960's, we had a shooting club associated with the Parks & Recreation Department in the So. Calif. area where I grew up. Gun safety classes for B-B guns and .22 rifles only.

Imagine a CA-State agency doing such nowdays ?

Different times, different world...

Pete, I owned a Model 41 in college and shot on a ROTC pistol team. I put 200 rounds a day through it, 5 days a week for 3 years during school term. Shot as well when I graduated as it did when I bought it. Shot a lot of 275 + on the old small bore pistol target. I bought a set of custom grips, the army coaches came around and said get rid of them, I did and they were right, I shot better. For day in and day out shooting with both timed and slow fire you have exactly what you need.

regards, heinz

I shot on a rifle team in middle and high school for about 3 years. I carried my own rifle to and from school (with ammo and ear plugs in my pockets) 2 days a week--stood it in a corner of the various classrooms during the day.

Some teachers raised their eyebrows a little, but there were 4 or 5 others who used their own rifles (and carried them). In those days many schools around the country had rifle teams (even in NY, NY). As you guys said above, the world has changed a whole lot.
