Those who know me, know I can't resist what I call 'story lugers', P08's which show their long service history through markings and modifications.
Just in is this interesting 1917 DWM. It started life as standard 1917 P08 in WW1, made it into the police/Reichswehr after the war, was marked 1920 during the government buy back period and received both a sear safety and magazine safety, the latter being removed again. Somewhere along the line, the pistol got a new barrel, 2 Simson Eagle/6 proofs and a PTV marking. After WW2 it found it's way into East German hands and was overhauled for duty in the DDR. It must have been in good shape, only the firing pin and hold open were replaced. The magazine is a DDR Ernst Thälmann 2/1001 marked version, numbered to the gun. That's about 80+ years of service through some interesting times. An overjealous reworker electropencilled the original sear with another 18. The pistol was reproofed in 1983 and marked by Frankonia. |
Very nice. You got a good one. The Vopo Lugers are indeed interesting, especially those with the shield/number in a sunburst that haven't been obliterated.

yes, I like these too - lots of history and if a DDr, I imagine they are about guaranteed to shoot :)

Another example of "history writ in steel" (with apologies/acknowledgement to Don Maus)

Yes, chock full of history; served under 4 different German flags.

Pretty amazing condition, given the amount of time and it's travel history.

As you know I am a fan of the VOPO variation ... sadly I don't have one yet but when and if I get one I can only hope it is as excellent as Vlim's example ... congratulations Vlim, this gun is in the right hands.

NIce example of built to last :-) Thanks for posting.
I wonder how many century old Glocks we will see with 80 years of service? |
