1940 Krieg one of 100

To the Krieghoff clan....... Just wanted to share a new find that walked into a show here in Texas from the vets son. A 1940 dated Krieghoff with 2 period original numbered mags, original period Krieghoff holster, and the period proofed tool. I've checked every detail against Gibson's book and everything is period original. Gibson says it's one of 100 late production pieces, serial # 11180 and is in approx. 97% original period blue and 98% original period straw. Gibson doesn't have this serial # listed but his book is years old. I will be happy to send anyone detailed scans if they want. They are still out there !

1940 Krieghoff

In addition, but not as big as the Krieghoff, the old man had a K date rig which I will post to it's proper catagory.......

Norme 06-12-2012 07:20 PM

Hi Mike, I've posted a similar message on your K date thread, but since that rig is suspect, I'd like to see a better lit photo of the tool in this rig. Everything may be Kosher, but it's wise to make sure. Regards, Norm

Mike
It would be interesting to see the details of the two matching magazines. 1940 Krieghoffs usually have the acceptance stamps right side up relative to the serial number. See page 56 and 57 The Krieghoff Parabellum. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Myky, This is a most excellent Krieghoff rig. We all dream of finding rigs like this.

My 1940 Kreighoff is number 11247. We are covering a large segment of the estimated 100.

Jan"

My statement made above was based on a cursory look at poor quality photographs. This is not an endorsement of this or any other Luger!!! I apologize for not being clear.

Details of the magazines markings would be of interest. See page 56 and 57 of The Krieghoff Parabellum and page 279 Third Reich Lugers.

Tom Whiteman lists this Luger (sn 11180) as a high quality reblue. His well researched list is on the other Luger Forum at:

Your comments please.

One can't help feeling sorry for poor Myky. Fifty four years experience but he still fell for that old vet's son's story. There's a lesson there for all of us. Regards, Norm

Old thread but new to me as I am new here . I can definitely add to the story of this gun [ 11180 ] as I bought it 7/12/95 . Returned it as it had issues not mentioned and it did not have a matching mag . It came out of the MPLS MN area at that time and was definitely not in the hands of the vets son . Hate to be the bearer of ill tidings but this is not the only one I used to own that mysteriously got better AFTER it left me . As many well know one of Waffenfabrik USA's main branches is in that area .

Well I may as well get the devil award as I bought this gun [ 11247 ] from Simpson LTD 4/3/95 for $1,295 . Actually it was a kicker in a trade to finish a deal and the person with me wanted it . He wanted it as a representative example and did not want to pay the much higher price of one with a stock lug . Reblued also . I cannot verify it [ he is now deceased ] but he did not keep it long and if I remember correctly the WaA USA branch in MN got it from him . Should be easy to back track ownership on this to verify all this ? SORRY but this is a true story .

Thanks 1933 Ford Nut. I would hope you would add some more of your past experiences for us so we don't become victims. Between the HK's and 1914 type "Navies", WaA MN had almost flooded the market at one time. Watch out for 1898 Borchardt-Luger "prototypes" as well.

George Anderson 04-15-2015 05:46 PM

No surprise given the reputation of the original poster.

Had mostly good ones as I don't like crap myself . Had 2 more " bad apple " ones though and one of them is now 98% all original with 3 matching mags !?! Had no matching mags when I owned it and other issues to boot . I talked to Randall Gibson about it as it is listed in his book . He told me Ralph used to own it .That was my first Krieg and after getting the very nice-honest former Bob Breatherton 1940 #10092 it started looking scary so I traded it away as " MESSED WITH " . I reported that one and it drew an immediate rebuttal so I will leave that one lay . I bet the owner paid more than messed with price !! The other one was purchased from Scheels Hardware and sports in Mankato MN 2/2/95 for $1,200 . Early S 1310 all matching except mauser mag . Had the " fat " wood grips and was very slightly pitted in a few areas . I bought it because it was one I didn't have and it was cheap . Problem with it was the person that they bought the collection from [ about 20 lugers ] used naval jelly or something of that sort to clean rust off a couple . Well the S was one of them and it had NO FINISH on it . Same sad story on both of these as they eventually found their way to you know where . I see 1310 is not reported [ thought I did ? ] but it would have cleaned up pretty well as it was straight other than no finish . Anywayz now that I have cemented my popularity here I will go lay by my dish .
