P08 6inch Barrel

Hi,
I am not sure this is a Navy barrel. I purchased it on Gunbroker, # 210992276, recently and the pictures there are still up and very good. My intention is to build a shooter with this barrel. The question I have concerns a small land/flat area on what I will call the collar of the barrel. The collar rest against the face of the receiver when the barrel is screws in. The flat area will be in direct line with the extractor and the front sight.

Since the Navy pistol had adjustable sights on the rear toggle I didn't think this was a Navy. I then looked at some pictures of the artillery barrels thinking perhaps this had been one that was cut down after WWI and did not see any flat area on those barrels.

Does anyone have a idea what pistol this barrel may have been made for? The flat area is smooth and looks like ther barrel was mfg with this flat.

Well, if it is a cut-down arty barrel, the front sight base/band will be silver-soldered on...Can you see a circular line on the muzzle??? A lighter colored line around the rear of the band???

And if it's a cut-down arty, they turned the rear sight base off on a lathe and tapered that section...which would leave a flat on the top of the barrel flange, where the rear sight sat...

And they would have had to re-blue it...

The silver-soldered front sight band (or lack) would be the definitive proof... ;)

Edit: The flange itself looks too thin for an arty...

Hi,
Thank for your response. The front sight does not appear to be soldered on. There are no tell tale solder lines. The blue finish looks to be perfect. The muzzle appears to be perfect. There are a few scratches on the collar indicating it was removed from a receiver as the threads seem to have wear.
Overall I am very pleased with the barrel and curious about the flat spot.
