1914 Luger

Hi,

I am new to this forum and am a new Luger owner! I have wanted to get a Luger for quite a while and finally got one. It is matching except for the magazine, the locking bolt and side plate.

The locking bolt is broken so I ordered a replacement from Numrich. Is there any fitting required when replacing this part? I wouldn't think so.

The side plate is another story. I don't know why the bluing is gone, but I can try and cold blue it. Any ideas? I also read that final fitting may be required if I replace it, so that's probably not an option right now.

I have shot the pistol on one range visit and it functioned fine and shot well. It is really a fun pistol to shoot!

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Welcome to the forum. A 1914 Luger is a fine one made at a time when craftsmanship was at it's peak at DWM.

If you shot it and it worked fine then the side plate is OK. The locking bolt may require some minor fitting... or it may not. You won't know until you have a chance to try it.

That’s a nice clean looking 1914 Luger. I wouldn’t worry about messing with the side plate it look fine to me. As you said they are fun to shoot.

Garandrus,

The surface of the side plate looks like it may be an aftermarket replacement. These are cast rather than the milled originals. That would also explain the lack of a number and blue. Nothing wrong with adding some cold blue.

Congratulations! Be warned they are addictive. Betcha can't shoot just one!

A couple of things regarding your Luger.
1st off ... congratulations ... like jimmiej says 'they are addictive' so make room for more.
2nd ... the trigger plate is definitively an aftermarket replacement IMO.
I think the original was probably damaged around the time the 'amateur' tried to force the take down lever down and 'broke' the round end from it ... insult to injury he then rounded the end to make it appear 'normal' lol.
Also your left grip has the dreaded million dollar chip which doesn't really affect the value because this is an obvious 'shooter' grade gun BUT it is still nonetheless a Luger and therefore deserving of a loving home and owner.

Have fun Garandsrus ... that's the main thing

I replaced the take down arm and it works great now! I also blued the side plate and it made a huge difference.

Vlim,

Thank you for the post. I didn't know how to add pictures here but figured it out and modified the two links with images.
