Gun show withdrawal

Going to a gun show this weekend, first one worth going to since COVID-19. Talked with a Luger collector on the phone who usually attends to confirm that he will be there, he has a Brazilian and a Byf both all matching #’s and both with the same serial numbers. He’s trying to sell them as a pair. I had a chance to buy the Brazilian by itself last year but passed and kicked myself later! It was reasonably priced but now paired with the Byf I don’t know. All I know is I have mad money 💰 burning 🔥 a hole in my pocket. I just hope the weather cooperates, way below zero and snowing today, should let up some by tomorrow.

Buy the pair and resell the byf. Recover some of your outlay; no need to keep it if you don’t want it.

You passed on a Brazilian contract??? You must be mad! Mad!

Definitely get the pair! Like Bill says, you can always sell the byf. In fact, make a big deal of showing the pair to your wife, explain how rare it is to have a matching serial pair, and let her convince you to sell the byf. She'll be satisfied that you're happy to compromise and you'll have a really neat addition to your collection. Marital harmony is achieved and everyone is happy.

Grab it! A difficult variation to find. One of the nicest Lugers I have is a Brazilian.

Wow never thought of buying the pair and reselling the Byf. Just because both have same serial #'s doesn't mean much does it? Anyway the finish on the Brazilian isn't as nearly as nice as Mr. Wood's but it is a Brazilian just the same. Thanks for the good advice!

Jeb,

Last spring about this time I also had an opportunity to buy a Brazilian for a good price, I didn't even really have the spare cash but I worked out a nice trade deal. He got a holster to complete a WWII Luger Rig and a shooter grade Steyr-Hahn, I got this beautiful condition gun(for a Brazilian, Ron's gun is a unicorn example of a tropical Luger). I miss the Steyr-Hahn a little, but have zero regrets about the deal.

I was just poking around and found this thread showing interest in Brazilian Lugers.

I recently bought a great Mauser Banner commercial from the dealer in the link below, great service, 3 day inspection period.

I would buy the Brazilian they have-looks like it is from the same high quality collection as my Banner-but I just can't afford to buy everything nice.

However-if I can connect a fellow collector with the dealer who treated me well I would be satisfied-here is the link to the pistol:

That GunsInternational Brazilian is a nice looking piece, however I am pretty sure it is a refinish/restore...look at the takedown lever and the pin in the top of the toggle knobs for starters. Still, it would be a cool place holder in a collection.

HerrKaiser I remember your posts from when you got your Brazilian and it peeked my interest for some reason. I should have bought it when I had the chance, price was reasonable but the finish was is a bit rough. I have been really holding out for a high end AE. Anyway it may all be a moot point as the weather clobbered us this weekend with subzero temperatures and snow with high winds makes driving on uncertain road conditions a real hassle. Besides I talked with seller on the phone and his partner is pretty adamant about selling the pair on Gunbroker. I haven’t given up completely I plan on calling seller if I can’t make show and see what can be done. I am not a wheeler and dealer generally but this Luger is becoming my white whale.

Matching serial numbers means zilch to 99%+ guys, in this case- as there is no connection between the two models. Except of course to the seller, who thinks it is a selling point.

Very few collectors would consider the same numbers on two lugers as anything other than a "co-incidence". JMHO.

I totally agree, I just think if posted on Gunbroker someone else might think different and be willing to pay way more than the sum total value just to have the novelty of the coincidence. Little frustrating.
