Snail Drum Holster?

My wife's uncle died recently (he was 92) and we found, what I guessed to be a snail drum holster, amoung his shooting "toys". I have never even heard of such an item and would like one of you 'experts' to confirm or deny it for me.

I've tried to include pictures but am not familar with this forums format so I hope they're here. If not let me know and I'll email them to anyone interested. Thanks

Hello Bob, and wecome...

If you switch to the "Artillery" luger discussion section and click on page 3 of the discussion threads, you will find a discussion from last summer titled "TM-08 Leather Carrier Question".

Cannot be sure, but from the photos I would venture a guess and say the holster you have may well be a reproduction and not from the 1915-20's time frame...brass looks a little to shiney and the leather does not have much of any aged, patina look...

Does your holster have any maker's stamping and date...?

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

No markings! I figured it was a repo but wasn't sure of what it was. There are some other items in his collection I'll be asking about later. Have to do some per - reasearch on them first.

Any idea of what this holster might sell for?

Thanks for the confirmation.

Hello Bob,

There is a possibility that your snaildrum carrier is a reproduction or maybe one made commercially during the 1920's in the US. According to two catalogs which I own, they show a leather carrier, but I have no idea what detail to look for on a leather carrier. I own an original WWI canvas military type, and maybe someone else on this forum can review your images and determine the period of production for a leather type carrier.

Cheers,
Albert

The carrier you have is probably an original. They were made during the twenties for the commercial gun trade in the US. There is no record, I have heard of, that such a carrier was ever made or used by the Germans.

The last one I had I sold on Ebay for over $300. Several years ago.
