Earliest surviving Test Luger (?)

I just watched the latest Legacy Collectibles YouTube presentation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8FA5MZ_oi4

This gun was "all over the forums," according to Tom, ten years ago, although I do not remember the thread here. He lays out a very interesting case. But not knowing what was decided in the historian/collectors' community, I have a question that was not addressed in the YouTube:

If the gun was one of two sent from existing stock in the U.S. by Hans Tauscher,, why is its mag numbered to the gun? Commercial Lugers' mags weren't numbered, right? Why would this have been an exception?

Re-reading the original thread, it’s clear to me the gun has many problems as well as a lack of hard evidence to support its claim to fame; circumstantial under the best interpretations. Here’s the original thread: https://www.lugerforums.com/threads/...r-found.35454/

I read the previous threads and unfortunately this is another pistol with a huge cloud over its head. If any potential buyer does their research they wouldn't touch this pistol with a ten foot pole. Not at that price. Interesting Luger for sure though and seems to be a nice 1900 AE but everything else???
