Unusual Krieghoff Serial #194

Guys,
I recently inherited Krieghoff serial # 194. This gun was brought back by my stepfather at the end of WWII. I recently carried it to a gun show, and had a couple of avid luger collectors look at it and this resulted in some very lucrative offers. I was told that it is not a "P" code and that all serial #'s match and that all Luftwaffe proofs are right. there is no manufacturers logo on the toggle slide, but there is an "A" with a circle around it near the barrell. both clips have the same 194 serial number and the holster and tool have the Luftwaffe proofs on them. I was told by my recently deceased stepfather that he took it off of a dead officer near the end of the war. He also brought back the 2 banners shown in the pix. I have looked in several books and can not find this serial # or any info on this pistol. Hi Randy,
Memory is a tricky thing, especially when you get to be as old as the WWII vets are. Your Krieghoff is a post war assembled gun, one of the highest SNs I have encountered. I recently sold one for $5000. Congratulations, you have a rarely seen Luger. Tom A |

Looks very nice, I would guess that John D (he collects Kriegs will be very interested. And if it is a post-war Krieg, then the dead officer story wouldn't fit... Is it possible he found two, sold, traded one before he left europe? The "dead officer" could have been a US officer who picked up this PX gun and accidently shot himself to death with it and some lucky GI happened to come along...not being able to help the poor soul out...but was able to liberate a nice post-war HK...:D (Just pulling your chain...) Randy, Can you post photos of your holster...any markings on the back and inside the holster, along the back of the holster just below the hinge. If your holster is also a HK marked/proofed holster, value could be as high as $ 800-$ 1,000... Tom A., Gibson reports a # 205 post war HK in his book. |
It is a bit hard to tell, but Randy's holster does have the internal HK proof, but it sounds like it has no maker's markings on the back of the holster :

You can read about these and dates of manufacture in this thread: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...&threadid=5301 Second - no, these are not P-code commercials, but rather, your's is a more common post-war variation (well, none are actually "common" ;) ) Third - unfortunately, these were produced after the VE Day, so there is no chance it would have been taken from a dead soldier, but nonetheless - it is a Krieghoff! Fourth - the "circle A" is noted on other post-war HKs (and P-codes/Series II) and is a rejection mark found on some HK commercial Lugers and post-war assembled Kriegs Fifth - as a dual mag matched RIG, would probably fetch $6000+ Finally - you can find some more info about Post-wars Kriegs in this thread - which discusses another post-war variation: http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthre...&threadid=5361 VERY NICE!!!
