Nails of knowledge
Hi to all, sometimes Luger learning is like pounding nails! No one told you about hard woods, and bending them, and of course, hitting your thumb..... very hard! :eek:.. But once and a'while, you get one to go in straight, and it does what it's supposed to do and you move on to the next. Well, in the learning curve on Lugers, you can't afford to forget that nail, because it may just be holding everything together. And so it is with Luger extractor springs! In all my repairs, I have replaced the extractor springs, usually before they become an issue. Gradually I started noticing a slight difference in the springs and started utilizing the springs that offered the most resistance when you lift up the tip of the extractor! You can feel the difference almost immeadiatly! Finally I broke out ther digital caliperd and started measuring the wire diameter, and found it broke down into two wire sizes, .020" dia. wire, and .025" dia. wire. I have had way better luck with the thicker wire (.025") then the thinner wire ones. I suggest that if smokestack jams become all to frequent, change out the extractor spring, you might be pleasantly surprized!!! Best to all, til.....lat'r......GT...:cheers:
