The BIG Reno Show
|
Hi Herb,
I will probably be there working tables for the shop where I work. At least that's the plan so far. Joe said that he would foot the room and board, but not at the Hilton. I'll probably be staying at the rescue mission. Ron |
I just added it to my work calender as a day off. so right now the plan is for me to go.

Ron, you might want to give the Sands a try, it's down town but it's really easy to get to the show from there, and the price is great for Reno.

This one seems to be much earlier...I recall they usually occur in April...snow for folks drving might be a consideration...
I have given up on Reno for now...other shows such as SOS and the NAPCA event with a lot more honest lugers (and sellers...)...;) |

For the first time ever ! ! ! Hope to be there.
RESET: After reading all the negatives, I guess I'll wait for Tulsa. Luke |
Luke, that would be wonderful!
Who are we missing.... lets see, John D., oh his new wife wouldn't allow it :D Howard might make it, Bob might make it..... uh, lets see???? :) Ed |
I might sneak it in, more so if you have an LF dinner.....but my main gun show goal is Tulsa, kinda saving coin for it, perhaps there is some room left at the mission? I wonder if usung Ron's name will help secure a place for Mrs. PL and myself.

starting to hate this, so slow my replys are blanked out,"can't find this page" what ever....yep that Tulsa
|
Howard,
The password is "Mogan-David 20/20". Friday is Navy bean and bacon bits with dumpster rolls night. Of course that's only in the first class dorm. |
Thanks for the laugh, ....real bacon bits or soy bean bits?
|
All depends on which dumpster they can access.
|
Sorry to miss seeing you guys, but the last Reno show that I drove to, years ago in April, the passes were closed for 3 days after the show. TH

Tom, that's my problem getting there from where I live in South Central Utah. The first hurdle is about 30 miles west of here, a pass at 8,385'. Then Hwy 50 all the way into Fernley NV with several passes above 7,000' out in the middle of nowhere with only one snowplow in each county, at least that's what it seems like. I have had to unexpectedly grab a motel room before in Ely NV, snowing so hard it was difficult to see and that was on the 6th of JUNE. I found a great site to check the weather before I go anywhere now, the forecasts are reasonably accurate most of the time. I keep it bookmarked now and check it reguarily.
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/index.php Ron, back in the early 80's a guy that worked for me lived in the Bay area and really hated the traffic, when he got off work he would chug a half pint of that MD 20/20 before hitting the road, all of us called him Mad Dog. I prefer Ripple, T-Bird, or Boones Farm myself. |
Herb,
In about 1970 I was home ported in San Diego. I aquired a bottle of Ripple on a nice sunny saturday afternoon. I went to the beach at La Hoya Cove(where the rich girls were) and proceeded to guzzle away while watching the babes play volley ball. Stupidly thinking that I might get lucky. I woke up with waves breaking over me. I was trapped in a culdesac against the cliff and had to wade/swim out. I nearly drowned. The first and last bottle of "Ralphle" I ever drank. I wouldn't make a good wino. I'd probably get run over by a bus. |
Ripple still is probably better than straining Sterno through a dirty sock. (Wouldn't know for sure though...haven't tried either one)
|
Ron,
Ripple is, Sterno strained through a dirty sock. MD 20-20 is whats left when they wring out the sock. :( Other Ron |
The Reno show is becoming less and less productive as far as collectable military guns go. As usual, I go in on the VIP ticket with the dealers on Thursday afternoon and don't stop scouting the place until Saturday mid-morning when the aisles are hopelessly choked with all the hunting rifle people and ammo buyers. All I had to show for a 1200 mile trip to the last show was a WWII German tangent Hi-Power. Not cheap, but a very nice acquisition. However, certainly not worth the time and expense of the trip. I will be giving this show a pass for the forseeable future.
