please help me find out what i have got

hello
I was just given a luger and holster. 1920 on top of barrel, DWM on breechblock. on front of grip it is marked SA.f.1.308. all serial numbers visable match, and i will provide a picture and serial number when possible.
Gun was brought home from Japan at the end of 1946 or so.

Chris, welcome to the forum. A serial number can help us, to include the suffix on the front of the frame. In addition, the proofs and acceptance on the right side of the receiver will tell us if this is a WW1 that was reworked or an original 1920 (date) rather than a 1920 property stamping.

if you could take a clear picture of the front grip strap, as it could be a weimar army marking or a weimar police marking.

My supposition about how the gun got to Japan in 1946... knowing several members of the 1946 Occupation forces in Japan... they were transplanted from the European theater when the war in Europe was over, and most likely brought their war booty with them and then promptly lost them in games of chance... (not cofirmed, but I would be willing to wager on it :D )

i would love to know also, it was brought back from japan by my grandfather, and i guess he won it, as he was not in europe. i would ask but he recently passed and left it to me. might try grandma. Pictures are being taken and will be uploaded soon
Thanks all

John's supposition is probably correct. I have owned 2 Lugers that came to the US via Japan courtesey of occupation troops.
