1917 Navy not reported in Navy Lugers book by Dave Molchen

This 1917 navy Luger belongs to a family member and I took photos of it with my phone while visiting. I checked to see if the serial number was in the Navy Lugers book and it is not. Since this pistol has been in the same place for at least 15 years and the book was published within the past couple years so it can't be on the updated list. I took this navy apart many years ago and the inside of the frame and upper receiver is in the white. The only parts that are not numbered are the firing pin and extractor.

Lovely 1917 Navy !
I don't think it's been recorded yet, either. |

Hi Ecoman,
#3219 is certainly a nice looking 1917 Navy but the absence of visible halos on the barrel serial numbers give me concern, maybe I'm just prejudiced against white lacquer in the markings! 1917 Navies should exhibit pronounced halos on the barrel serial numbers (see photo). I am entering this gun in the latest edition of the Navy List (due out later this month) but with a caution referring to the missing halos. Regards, Norm |
Thanks Norme,
Sounds good. Yeah, I hate the use of those lacquer sticks. The lighting conditions while taking the photos were not ideal. The barrel does have wear around the front sight and minor rubbing at the sides of the muzzle. It looked like there halos, but they were not as pronounced as one would normally see. I would like to see the latest updated navy list at some point. Earl (Ecoman) |
Hi Earl,
Send me a PM (Personal Message) with your email address, I'll send you a link to the most recent Navy List. Regards, Norm |
I'm curious....I thought '17s had dished mags?
