...went gavel-down on the Rock Island Auction in May 2004 for $ 8050.00. Very nice HK luger with serial P-1137...

I am in San Francisco for the month of July; the piece is secured in a storage location. Regrettably, I have been unable to figure out the ooga-booga of posting pictures here.

Upon return to home station, I will have 3-4 days of down time before launching on next assignment (Greenville, SC) for 6 weeks or so.

With my copious spare time, I will try to get some pics and pass to Ed or John for posting.

FWIW, this piece appears as though the toggle has never been racked; it is a truly magnificent piece and the pride of my Krieghoff collection.

Tom, Hearing you are planning to spend your entire month of July in San Francisco, it would be a pleasure for me to meet you at Mike Krause's shop in San Mateo (Krausewerk Collectibles). Mike has just purchased a Navy commercial on the Rock Island Auction and would love to share info, etc. on Navy's, HK's, the 45 Luger, among other topics. Would be a shame to be so close for so long without a few moments to stop in.

Tom, Marvin Cook a very dear friend and Luger collector lives in Moore SC and works out of Greenville/Spartanberg Area FWIW. He is really a Class A#1 person. His speciality of collecting is Lugers and P.38s

Tom, I bought a BHP w/holster from Marvin last year, excellent person. My son is stationed at the AFB at Sumter very close where you will be.

'Bout this time last year, I was enjoying your hospitality. It was a very enjoyable experience and I thought your display of the web gear-the stuff of us common grunts-was very well done. The fact that you had provenence through your family made it even better.
My friend, I will be working in SC for a client during August and early September..I may have a need to see ugly dogs up close, so if I do, be warned, I may drop in and destroy the local Luger market. LOL.

Tom, come on down, but with all due respect, your interests would not affect the local Luger market here at all. Unless I'm grossly mistaken, most of your Luger dealings are done under cover of darkness in expensive cigar smoke filled rooms marked private on green velvet covered tables by RSVP invitation only. You work way below the radar screen or at altitudes beyond my capacity. Most all of us are aware of your excellent professional methological approach in determining the authenticity of a rare collectable historic firearm, you need to put together a template on how to find them. Reference my toy room, I've added some more web gear to Cpt. Minh. I'm always looking.

Tom, If you have a chance, find out if the SF Gun Exchange on 2nd St. is still in business. I suspect that the city fathers have closed it down, as well as the many gun carrying pawn shops on 6th St. I spent many happy days buying lugers from these guys, when any luger, regardless of variation, as a $400 gun. Tom H., I can answer the SF Gun Exchange question. It was closed down in 1999 for all the reasons you said, and others. Ted Langlais, who you might know, worked there for many years and now works part time in Mike Krause's shop in San Mateo.

The SF Gun Exchange was one of the most enjoyable gun shops I have ever visited. The wall of collectable automatics was enough to keep you entertained for most of an afternoon. Really rare and exciting stuff. On one day that I visited, they had not one but TWO 06/29 transition Lugers on hand. Fascinating.
