What Was Your First Book On Lugers~

Did you own it before your first luger? Please suggest your favorite books!

Doubs 06-05-2021 03:13 PM

Datig's "THE LUGER PISTOL". My father bought it in 1958 and we bought our first Luger shortly after in 1958. I still have it.

My story is about the same as Doubs...probably bought around the same time since I bought my first Luger in 1957. I still have my copy (1955 first edition) also, in mint condition with the dust cover (I have a clear plastic book cover over it). My dear wife Sarah later bought me the much larger 1962 edition for my birthday, and this copy is still in good condition but well thumbed through as it was my go to reference for many years.

Luger by John Walter. Great book.

I am now the custodian of a good deal of correspondence between the author and German experts. He did his homework well.

Vlim, I agree John Walker 'The Luger Story' is a favorite of mine! One of the finest!!

Vlim 06-05-2021 07:29 PM

John Walter did 2 books. 'Luger' published in 1977 and 'The Luger Story' which has seen several updates and reprints.

Both are an essential read for anyone who is serious about getting in to Lugers.

I'm sad that some of our fellow authors have been unable to complete their works. Don Hallock was working on a reprint of the book he did with Joop van de Kant and their magazine book project was not completed.

I doubt that Jan Still will be able to complete his projects which saddens me also.

Recently we also lost Alan Burnham, our HSc guru.
