New Reference Book on Paul Mauser

2 Attachment(s)
Dear Fellow Collectors,
After more than 6 years of study of the Paul Mauser Private Archive and early Mauser Archive, we are happy to announce that the new reference book on Paul Mauser will be soon available.

The book is published by Brad Simpson Publishing and is printing now.

Attached you can find a brochure that introduces the new book; we are sure the book will provide new and unpublished information directly from the original sources.

Note also that the documentary “The Legacy of Paul Mauser” was filmed during the book’s research and will also be available.

Please have a look at the brochure and do not hesitate to ask any question.

I edited this book for Mauro and Gerben. The archive they worked from has some remarkable detail through which a number of new facts concerning Mauser and his inventive genius are shown.

This was a very interesting period in the history of the industrial revolution and European gun making. It's also the period of development just before World War I.

Mauro and Gerben had access to a number of newly discovered glass plate photographs and remarkable examples of rare Mauser handguns made available from private collections.

We're working now to publish the documentary. More on that as the work progresses.

WHERE, WHEN, AND $$$.............looks like a good one........thanks

Tom, answers to that question will come from the publisher, Brad Simpson. The books are being printed right now overseas, and will have to be shipped to the USA. Pictures from last week show the book as uncut quad sheets laid out on pallets.

Availability should be later this year - and we hope prior to December.

Dear All,
Please find below the complete Dust Jacket of the new Paul Mauser book.

The front was already available in the presentation brochure we provided a few days ago. You can download it (PDF) from the link below.

I would like to spend a few words about the back of the Dust Jacket.

What you see, are three incredibly nice Glass Plates Negatives related to important pistols.

In the book we do use lots of the original glass plates from the glass plate’s archive. They are unique documents and in most cases they are dated, providing the good timing when a specific prototype or pistol has been finalized. Paul Mauser was one of the first introducing the use of photography mainly for configuration control.

Of course in the book you will see the positive and the quality is very impressive.

The first one is the glass plate of the Carbine number one… yes the one tested by the Kaiser Wilhelm II in Potsdam on the 20th of August 1896. The glass plate has been taken before the test in Potsdam.

The second is the C06/08 glass plates negative. This pistol, number 23, is the one used for the patent.

The last one is a great long-barreled 1909 prototype chambered in 9 mm Parabellum.

This explains the unusual back of the Dust Jacket and I hope you will appreciate all the glass plates used in the book.
Cheers,
Mauro

Dear All,
Another step has been achieved: the book cover has been finalized.
The original idea was to use the Mauser bust as on the dust jacket. Unfortunately, the specialists told us that the foil stamping process is not adequate in term of resolution to print out the bust with the necessary accuracy.

For this reason, we decided to change the design and using something more "classic": a drawing of a C96 pistol in combination with the Paul Mauser signature.

However, we decided to do something special, not just a standard C96 drawing.

What you see reproduced on the cover is an drawing made on the 5th of May, 1905 by Paul Mauser himself to describe a new sear safety mechanism that, in the end, was not finalized. In the book, you will see, for the first time, all the original drawings that describe this sear safety mechanism.

Cheers,
Mauro

More nice documents from the Paul Mauser Book

Dear All,
We have received some others nice images from the production.
They are photos taken during the production activity, therefore the quality is not excellent but good enough to describe the documents.

The first photo is related to the Cover for the Deluxe Edition. It is leather made with gold foil stamping. The design is the same as the Standard edition and we already pointed out that the drawing is a new, unpublished sear safety mechanism designed by Paul Mauser himself on the 5th of May, 1905.

The second photo is related to the internal binding paper. For this, we selected the most iconic C96 blue print in the Archive. This is a 1:1 blueprint drawn by Friedrich Doll on the 30th of March 1896. The blue print is signed by Doll and stamped with a Mauser stamp. Doll was one of the most strict collaborator of Paul Mauser and you will discover him reading the book.

The third photo is related to the first page. For this page we selected a very spectacular Mauser Display. It is a positive from an original Glass Plate negative in the Archive.

As you can see, already the cover, the binding paper and the first page are providing very nice and unique documents but you will discover hundreds in the book.

I hope you enjoy.

Best Regards,

Mauro

Dear Fellow Collectors,
Brad Simpson informed us that the book will be shipped from Thailand in January by boat.
So, if everything goes smooth, in a few months the book will be available.
Just after the holidays, two books will be posted by courier to us, so we will receive them quite soon.
As soon as our presentation copies are available we will share some photos and we will provide more information.
Warm regards,
Mauro & Gerben

New Reference Book on Paul Mauser - availability and more info

Dear Fellow Collectors,
We received the presentation copies of the book by courier from Thailand.

The remaining copies will follow in some weeks.

In USA the sale responsible is Brad Simpson and in Europe, Gerben and I. For the remaining countries, it is up to you from where you prefer ordering the book.
The book price for the standard edition is $89.95. The Deluxe price is $150.

There is one unique aspect of this work that we can now point out with the help of some pages.
What you have to appreciate is that the narration is based upon unique original documents from the period, Paul Mauser diaries, letters, drawings, technical notes, glass plates, sales books…

Therefore, the reader has access to an incredible amount of historical documents … a sort of time machine that bring you back in the first years of the Mauser Company, whit Paul Mauser and his collaborators fully engaged in the rifles and pistols design.

This is really a unique aspect of this book.

The first two pages show the use of Paul Mauser diaries and letters…

It follows some samples of original drawings and technical notes that we use to introduce technical aspects directly from the Mauser engineers involved in the design and production…

We are sure that you will appreciate the important effort done to access, translate, study and organize these unique documents.
