Silver Solder
Does anyone know how to silver solder? I have a Mauser 1934 that the "post" came out of the firing pin and I need to get it repaired.

Silver soldering can be done with a propane torch. The heat capacity is marginal. A Mapp torch, usually available at the larger hardware store is better.
You need silver solder, expensive because of the high silver content and you need silver solder flux, potentially expensive beecause it can remove the bluing from your Mauser. You also need solder stop, a chemical compound that will protect the blue and keep the solder from spreading. An old time heating and air conditioning mechanic might be able to do this but I would look for a very competent gunsmith. It is NOT a do it yourself project, even on a firing pin. |
Heinz,
Thanks for the info! I was looking for someone who knows how to do this for my firing pin, it is on a KM marked Mauser 1934. Since the FP is "in the white" there won't be any damage to the bluing on the gun. The FP's were hand fit on these guns and finding one that works would cost the same as a "mechanic" who knows how to fix the one that is with the pistol. Anyone have a referral for me who does this type of work? Mark |
