Type of Luger

Hey all, new to site. Been researching as much as i can as I picked up three Lugers in a estate.

One of the Lugers I can’t seem to find what type it is, or I’m over thinking it.

Two of the Lugers seemed to be re-blued. The bluing is fairly flawless, but I assume from what little I’ve read so far that it makes that a shooter and not collectible.

I know I have a lot more to read but any preliminary info on this Luger? Maybe Help point me in the right direction to research more.

Appears to be a reblued 1900 american eagle 30cal.

Looks like 8293 - so just a bit more than thousand after the US Test trials

Thanks! I’ve got a lot to learn. The other two I have (one Navy) seems to be re-blued but has nice percentage of straw, not sure if that was part of the refurb or original.

I added two pics, one of each that I also picked up. Beautiful Lugers IMO but def look re-blued to me.

Wish they were completely original but it is what it is.

Nice catch! Reblued or not...

Edward Tinker 04-19-2021 11:47 AM

this 1900 appears to be reblued to me also

collectible is a fine line - reblue - depends on who reblued it, how it was reblued, etc...

value goes down as parts are changed, grips, wrong magazine, reblued, whether it is unusual, whether it is 'rarer' model, etc.

They made lugers from 1900 until 1945 and used them until the 80's in some places.

@Jerry. I was stationed at MCAS Yuma from 2000-2004

I picked up about 40 guns to sell at guns shows, etc... two of the three “might” be for sale if the value is there. I’d like to keep one for a personal collection. Just not sure how to value them yet.

@edward

At quick glance the two “nicer” Lugers seem to have all the part numbers matching. The 1900, I am having trouble finding many two digit serial numbers on the different parts. Def. not like the other two. I’ll be digging more in to them as I read more on the forum as what to look for.

Your model 1900 AE commercial Luger was likely made in late 1901 if I'm reading Gortz & Sturgess correctly.

Wow, thanks for that info! Anything in this condition from 1901 has me happy lol

Thanks Spangy! Looking forward to picking everyone’s brains!

1900's are commercial, thus, they are mostly marked 'hidden' numbers and not marked as many places as military or police lugers.

Value is always subjective, most shooters are still 800-1000 - a 1900 is at least that, but harder to sell than a military luger.

See the FAQ in the new collectors area for a pdf on all kinds of luger facts :)
