That is a nice one! The only imperfection I can see is the small imperfection on the high-side of the sideplate. Great photos, too! (Even of the parrot :) ).. It'll be interesting to see where this one tops out on the bidding....

but John D. Technically that is not a parrot but a Macaw... pretty colors, but not very often a personality to match.

If you want a friendly bird, get yourself an eclectus parrot... Beautiful colors and can develop a vocabulary of over 1000 words.

Here is a photo of one like my baby "Pietro"... He'll be a year old in January... and will live to be 60 if he stays in good health...

we will have to leave him to one of the kids in our will... :)

Most Kreighoff Lugers I have seen seem to have Luftwaffe markings.
Does anyone know if Kreighoff was the only Luger supplier for the Luftwaffe?

Re: Parrots. There are always African Greys.
This is Ernie. 10 years old. He decided to fly over and vist one of my wifes cats who we wrapped in a towel in order to put medication in its eyes.
Great talker and mimics every sound he hears.
He knows each cat (5 of them) by name and greets them when they come into the room.

Just my 2 cents,I believe the krieghoff is a Eagle2 variaton, of which only 150 were suppositly
produced, wrong mag.,but the outside looks right. It would be nice to know if their is a 7
stamp under 1 of the grips,and if all internal parts are marked with a eagle of 1 varation or another with a 2. A really nice Krieghoff.

I think you are right - there are a few folks from the Forum who are bidding on it (not me - I'm not looking for a "36"). Anyway - I'm watching it with interest as well, just to see where the "bidding frenzy" ends.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I guess the ding on the sideplate doesn't seem to bother anyone. I saw another Krieg with a similar ding on the sideplate. I guess this is one way of adjusting the trigger pull.

That ding on the sideplate doesn't change the value of this Luger much, if at all. The rest of it looks pretty good. Heck, I have some dimples on my checks and it hasn't slowed me down. Facial checks that is.

The only thing that bothers me a little is what looks like some rust in the interior near the barrels cone. I gotta take a closer look at that. I have to also take a little look around to see what these things really go for in the rest of the world. I already have a nice '1936' with a matching mag so I have to consider if I want to try for this one. I also want to take a closer look at that chamber date area. Could just be the photography but something there just looks different. But I could be wrong. The guy didn't show the condition of the straps too well either. Lotsa pictures but only a few of the areas that I want to take a closer look at. I am trying to set a mental price on it even if I don't try for it.

don't worry too much about the price of a Luger. (unless its really out on outer space, like some Lugers that I have recently seen). The price of a fairly priced Luger today will be much higher tomorrow.
Its nice to see a fellow Michigander on the forum helping me take on these southern rebels here. Did you attend the last Novi show and see those really far out priced Lugers that one guy had? Two of the three that he had were nice quality guns, but really high priced.

Big Norm, the last big gun show I made it to was the Midland Gun Show in West Branch last spring. I saw a couple Lugers there but nothing great, again prices were high. It didn't look like they were selling either.

I'm kind of looking at one in a local shop. It's
been there about three years, probably because of the price. He wants $650.00 for it. It's a DWM, about 70% blue, some straw, all matching including the Mag. However, there's always a however, the stock lug has been ground off.

I think the prices is a little high for this condition. Would be a good shooter.

May try to get the price down.

OK - aside from your cheeks - I think the "rust" you see in the photos on the 36 are grease..??? I took some pics of one of mine - and it looked the same...

HOWEVER - this is NOT AN INVITATION to post pics of your cheeks - which may or may not have "dimples"... LOL!!!!

check out your forum email. I might add to places not to go to is Mio, Atlanta, Lewiston and Gaylord. I have regularly checked them out. Nothing there. I ran around the UP last summer and saw lots of rifles and shotguns but no Lugers.

Question: Is that the normal order and placement of the serial, proof and bore diameter on the underside of the barrel? Is the diameter usually parallel to bore axis?

Yes - both the orientation of the bore marks - and the order of the proof - serial number is absolutely correct....

Except for the ding in the sideplate I mentioned in the second post in this thread, and Big Norm noted as well - it's a fine piece. In several private e-mails, my guess was that it should go for between $3600 - $3900 in the real world - and that given auction frenzy, would probably go for a bit more on an auction site. I just checked the going bid - and I should have a crystal ball <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

That's very interesting. I have a "36" HK that has, from the receiver, the bore diameter, the proof and then the serial number, all perpendicular to the bore axis. The diameter is readable from the front and the serial from the rear. It has been examined by a well known Luger expert and declared to be 100% correct. How could there be such a different marking orientation when only some 600 were made?

Please help me to understand this apparent conflict.
